Ashlyns Fight

As all of you might remember our little niece Ashlyn had some complications from her heart surgery just before the holidays last year. One of the unanticipated procedures that they had to preform caused her to be placed on blood thinners. When you are on blood thinners apparently you need to have your blood checked every couple of weeks. About two weeks ago her blood was checked and her levels were extremely high. They took her off of the thinners for 3 days then put her back on them. After a few days Ashlyn started showing signs that things were not okay. Her parents took her to Urgent Care and they were told she had a UTI. They next day her legs were hurting her and when it got to the point where she couldn't walk Liz and Todd took her to the ER.

Long story short, they found that Ashlyn was bleeding from her pancreas and in her brain. This was due to her blood thinner levels being too high for too long. On Wednesday, she had emergency brain surgery to relieve the pressure on her brain. The doctors told Liz and Todd that she might not make it through the surgery and if she did there could be brain damage. Ashlyn did make it through surgery! Great news, but the next 72 hrs. were very critical. She has made it through the 72 hr mark but she will be heavily sedated until tomorrow. Then they will be able to tell the extent of her brain damage. She has shown some promising steps, reacting to pain stimulus and opening her eyes and focusing on her dad when she was told he was in the room. She is a fighter and we now that she has a lot more fight in her.

But once again we are asking for prayers! Prayers for her to be healed, prayers for Liz and Todd to be able to handle whatever the Lord places at their feet, and prayers for Ashlyn's brothers and sister to deal with the disruption in their lives.

Beau left today to fly up to NY to be with his family and to help out with the kids. His other sister Erin will also be flying in today from Indiana. If you are interested in keeping up on her progress you can visit fabulousfinns.blogspot.com or click on Liz and Todd Finn on the right side of my blog.

How brave is that little girl? The innocence she must have...just makes me want to cry for her and her family. Our prayers are with them.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that things went downhill! I pray that she will be all right and that her family will get through this. My heart goes out to you, Lenette!
