Poor Baby!

Kerrigan woke up from her afternoon nap yesterday with these nasty little bumps on her right leg (sorry the pictures not to good). She has pretty nasty eczema and is itching all the time, but I thought it might be an allergic reaction to the mac and cheese I gave her for the first time at lunch. So I called my personal nurse Sharon :) and she encouraged me to take her in. Since I had to wait until this morning to call in for an appointment I just gave her some Benedryl (which I give her for the eczema) and lathered her up pretty good with the Aquaphor. This is how she woke up this morning. Totally worse!

So I took her in and she has impetigo! Yikes! The Dr. says it was caused by her itching her eczema and those spots got infected. It's very contagious too! My poor baby is so uncomfortable and very cranky. So know she is on an antibiotic, an antihistamine and several creams. I feel so bad that I passed along my bad skin gene's to my babies (Olivia has eczema too although it's doing much better)! Taryn lucked out....she's more like her daddy!

Wow, Delaney gets eczema on her ankles if I'm not careful. I guess I'll be more careful now! She'll scratch till it bleeds, and that's bad enough. I hope K gets better fast and doesn't share.

Oh my gosh, that's horrible! I hope she gets better soon. Mickell has eczema too and I can hardly control it behind her ears of all places and on the bend of her arms...I've tried nearly everything and can't seem to keep it cleared up for more than a week at a time!

Lenette, you asked, so I copy and pasted!;-) It's usually found in 3-5 year olds, but Mazzy got it at 1 1/2.

Fifth disease begins with a low-grade fever, headache, and mild cold-like symptoms (a stuffy or runny nose). These symptoms pass, and the illness seems to be gone until a rash appears a few days later. The bright red rash typically begins on the face. Several days later, the rash spreads and red blotches (usually lighter in color) extend down to the trunk, arms, and legs. The rash usually spares the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. As the centers of the blotches begin to clear, the rash takes on a lacy net-like appearance. Kids younger than 10 years old are most likely to get the rash.

Older kids and adults sometimes complain that the rash itches, but most children with a rash caused by fifth disease do not look sick and no longer have fever. It may take 1 to 3 weeks for the rash to completely clear, and during that time it may seem to worsen until it finally fades away entirely.
