Family Vacation

****Caution Long Post Ahead****
For the last few months I've been begging and begging Beau to 'take me somewhere'! We've both been going a little stir crazy. So we decided to drive to Asheville,NC and go camping. It was a 6hr. drive but well worth it! I've always wanted to visit Asheville, home to the Biltmore, Vanderbilt's private home at one time and the closest thing to a castle the US has. Unfortunately we didn't get to visit the Biltmore because they charge $40 per adult to get in! We'll have to save up for next time! Anyway, it is an absolutely beautiful area and reminded me a lot of Colorado. We haven't been camping since I was pregnant with Taryn so it was a new experience with all of the kids. They did surprisingly well, with the exception of the first day (Kerrigan was adjusting to the new sleeping and living arrangements). We had a lot of fun as a family and none of us wanted to come home when it was time to leave. I will admit that it wasn't the de-stressing vacation that I had hoped for, but we did have a wonderful time and are so looking forward to doing it again! Campsite before the tent was set up.
our 'home' for the next 3 days
Beau telling the girls a ghost story. Actually it was a monster story told on Olivia's request

Olivia wasn't quite happy with the 'monster' story and was pretty scared. She told Beau that she didn't like 'monster' stories only ghost stories. So he told the same exact story only with a ghost instead of a monster and she laughed instead of cried, funny kid!
Kerrigan enjoying a little snack--hate's baby food, but loves to snack on things she can hold.

the campsite was on a lake so we took the girls swimming. The water was cold, but the girls loved it!

Beau braved the cold, but I chose to stay on the beach and read.

We took the girls fishing, we didn't get to stay long because Kerrigan had had enough and we didn't catch anything, but we had fun anyway.
Taryn attempting to pick-up a worm, sometimes my girls are just to 'girly'!

S'mores mess! She even had it in her hair
We had a few good games of Uno and by the end of the trip Olivia learned how to play by herself.
Uno was a family affair and even Baby K joined in on the fun!
Grizzly Adams! This was him actually on the way to shave it off. He couldn't stand it after 4 days and I wouldn't kiss him, it hurt too much!
The morning we left, hanging out by the fire!
Olivia was playing while we were waiting for Taryn to wake up so we could pack up the tent. Taryn actually woke us all up at around 6am that morning and then went back to sleep for another hour! The little stinker!!!
Baby K turns 7mo. while on our trip!
Olivia fell out or the car that last morning. Taryn had had a few falls during the stay, but Olivia is the only one that needed a band-aid.
This is the Grove Park Inn. I've wanted to stay at this place for years! It was tucked up in these beautiful hills just north of Asheville. So beautiful!
Here are the highs and lows of the trip
Highs:
-$3.70 for gas --found a gas station along the way, we thought it was a mistake and so did everyone else that was stopping. It wasn't a mistake but the pump was going really slow because of everyone stopping.
-No bugs or ticks--there were some annoying bees, but once you got the fire started they left.
-PERFECT weather! warm with a breeze during the day and a little chilly at night, but not cold.
-Watching the girls having so much fun
-being able to read and relax
-S'mores and roasting hot dogs!
-I didn't get any pictures of it but on Thursday we went to this other lake about 45 min from campsite. It was in this beautiful area called Lake Lure, What a gorgeous area and a fun day. I even got a bit of a sunburn playing in the water and hanging out on the beach.
-No make-up for 4 days!
Lows:
-Kerrigan crying for ever! trying to fall asleep in an unfamiliar place.
-Taryn had a few meltdowns, one of which was making her take a shower the last day because she had nastiness everywhere! I had to hold her in and Beau said her screams echoed thru the entire campsite!
-the other campsites where a little closer then we would have liked, but no one occupied 2 of them until the last night.
-coming home!

Looks like so much fun!! We love to camp too! It's great your girls are into camping!

We took Maz when she was 10 months old and it was fun but tiring.:-)

BTW- those pics of Taryn on the patio are priceless. Children are the BEST...so innocent, yet so funny!:-)

I can remember camping trips when our family was young. They were some of the best vacations. As l
Larry and I have gotten older we are into RV camping. I love the air conditioner and cooking facilities not to mention a very comfortable queen size bed, but your pictures made me momentarily consider tent camping again.
